Superfoods to Include in Your Diet (Part One)

Superfoods is marketing-given name for foods that are sparse in calories but rich in diverse nutrients. Walk into any supermarket and you’ll see an abundance of labels with words such as “ healthy”, “whole grains”, “no additives”, “no trans-fats”, “essential vitamins and nutrients”. But how do we really know if they are what they claim on the label? Figuring out what to eat in order to be as healthy as possible can come across as tricky. But nature, as always, has lent us a helping hand, by offering us superfoods.  You can find them easily and they can help you have a healthier diet.
Which are these superfoods?

#1.Blueberries

Yes, blueberries are a superfood. They protect your brain from inflammation, improving your memory and boosting communication between  brain cells. They have a low calorie count, as well.

#2. Oranges

Just one orange gives your body more than 100% of Vitamin C that you need in a day.  Also a great source for calcium and folate, with the added benefit of having just 60 calories.

#3. Acai berry

You might have not heard of it, but this berry is one of the most impressive superfoods.  It contains more antioxidants than red grapes, a synergy of healthy fats and a combination of amino acids, vital for muscle contraction and regeneration.

#4. Barley

Sadly overlooked, this ancient grain is actually one of the grains with the most health benefits.  It’s a low-glycemic grain which is rich in both soluble and insoluble fiber.  It helps the digestive tract and can prevent cancer, lowers blood cholesterol and helps the body metabolize fats.

#5. Garlic

If acai berry is the most exotic superfood on the list, then perhaps garlic is the most humble one.  One of the most common of superfoods, garlic helps lower total cholesterol and blood pressure, destroys infections, reduces the risk of certain cancers and blood clots, helps fight against neurological diseases, exhances detoxification.
