Microsoft Director Is Stepping Down

MicrosoftMSFT director Stephen Luczo is stepping down, continuing a makeover of the company’s board under new chief Satya Nadella.

Luczo, who is chairman of the disk-drive maker Seagate TechnologySTX  had been on Microsoft’s board fewer than two years. He was a member of the committee that conducted the search for Microsoft’s new CEO.

In a statement issued by Microsoft, Luczo said that with a new CEO in place, it was the right time to leave the board and focus on his work at Seagate. Microsoft in early February promoted Nadella, a company veteran, to the top post, making him only the third CEO in the company’s history.

Microsoft’s upper ranks have been going through some changes in recent weeks.

Founder Bill Gates handed the chairman post to another director, John Thompson, and took on the role of adviser to Nadella. Last week also marked the first board meeting with Mason Morfit, a representative from the investment firm ValueAct Capital and the first director at Microsoft not appointed solely at the discretion of the company.

Meanwhile, Nadella announced in early March that senior executives Tony Bates and Tami Reller would be leaving the software giant, while Mark Penn became a new strategy chief. ads
